Staying in a hostel

Unique, independent places to stay

Stay in an independent Scottish Hostel this season

All of the hostels listed on Scottish Hostels are independently owned and run. They are one of a kind places to stay, located in wonderful parts of Scotland.

From old converted steadings and boathouses to modern purpose built buildings, they all have a unique character and a warm welcome.

You’ll find a welcoming, clean place to spend the night at an affordable rate.

Whether you’re travelling on your own, with your family or with a group of friends we have just the hostel for you.

Bedrooms

Each hostel is different but most offer a mix of private rooms and shared dormitory rooms suitable for different group sizes and types.

Bedding is normally included, so there is no need to bring your sleeping bag or pillow!

Bathrooms

Many hostels have rooms with ensuite toilets and showers or private facilities. You'll also find bedrooms with shared access to toilets and showers.

There's a lot of choice out there, so you decide!

When you go hostelling you share the hostel's communal facilities with your fellow guests. There'll be a place to cook, eat and relax. It's a great way to meet other people and share the stories of your day.

Kitchen

Kitchens are usually fully equipped with everything you need to cook a meal. All you need to bring is the food! Some hostels provide a continental breakfast or cooked meals (for a charge) and sometimes there's a bar or restaurant.

Lounge, dining room, common room

Lounges and dining rooms may be separate rooms or combined (sometimes referred to as a "common room"). You'll find a space for dining and an area with comfortable seating. There will often be a selection of board games and books. Some have wood burning stoves to keep you cosy in the winter months.

Drying room, laundry, WiFi

In most hostels other facilities include drying rooms, laundries, free WiFi, parking and bike storage.
