“Having just spent over 5 weeks on Skye, much of it at Skye Base Camp, I feel qualified to comment on this superb new accommodation. Great location with stunning sea views and within walking distance of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants, SBC is only a short drive from all the main portals to access Skye's Cuillin Ridge. SBC has really great accommodation with clean, comfortable rooms and fantastic beds, a huge kitchen, efficient drying room and super friendly staff who are always helpful and able to provide much local knowledge be it of the latest climbing conditions, local places to eat or Skye's multitude of attractions. SBC is also a working base for Skye Guides and it's really good to see happy clients returning after a successful day in the hills; their natural high from climbing the Inaccessible Pinnacle, traversing the Cuillin Ridge or perhaps rock climbing in Elgol adds a huge buzz to the atmosphere. The whole place has a very chilled atmosphere and is a great place to hang out whether you are a hardcore climber, Munroist, photographer or world traveller. Everybody seems welcome and the mix of diverse people creates a vibrant synergy. Skye Guides are well known for their expertise and professionalism and, having met a lot of "guides" in the Cuillin, I can say they are right up there setting the benchmark. Now it looks like Skye Base Camp is setting a similarly high benchmark for accommodation. Top Ten Things I liked about SBC; - small rooms rather than large dormitories - very secure with key code access to building and individual rooms - well equipped kitchen - free WiFi - superb hot showers - lounge with stunning views of the sea - plenty of parking just outside - efficient drying room - the very competitive prices, especially out of season deals (big thanks, Mike) - friendly, welcoming staff - meeting someone so special I can only describe them as my soul/sole mate. NB I can't guarantee you'll find love at SBC but if you're looking for reasonably priced accommodation and perhaps a chance to meet like minded people then who knows. PS Bridgette and I are already making plans to go back for two weeks.”
